VAQ identified patients who were not able to afford their regular medication. This was achieved by forming squad works with the help of local panchayat / ward representatives. Our main source of income for the free medicine distribution was the monthly donation of VAQ members who were very limited in numbers. But we kept providing free medicines to the identified patients. When the demand for free issue medicines increased, we decided to start own medical shop to avail the medicines on subsidized prices and to form an organized system to execute the program on a long run.
The Medical shop was inaugurated by the prominent figure and philanthropist Mr. Mohammed Eissa in May 2012. Currently 150 patients are receiving free medicines monthly which costs 300 – 500 Rs per head. Apart from the free issue medicine program, a rate reduction of 10% to 20% is also provided to the public. Expansion of Pharmacy is one of the key plans and is underway.
