Vazhakkad is a border village in Malappuram district near to Calicut in the state of Kerala, India. A village, that has excelled academically and socially, it has experienced the pros and cons of the Grasim wood pulp factory which was territorially on the other bank of river Chaliyar in the village of Mavoor in Calicut district.
Vazhakkad has given birth to many productive civic leaders who have served in the state leadership on different domains. Koyapathodi Ahmed Kutty Haji was the MLA of the Madras Assembly. Kanniyath Ahmad Musliyar, President of Samastha, Islamic Renaissance leader MT Abdurahman Moulavi, former Education Minister ET Mohammad Basheer MP, former Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem MP, former Chairman of Minority Commission M Veerankutty, former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer T Arifali and Chaliyar activist KA Rahman.
